Wanna Start Climbing? Check this out!

Having the proper gear is the most important thing if your considering a fun and safe climbing experience. Even though the sport is inherently dangerous, when using the right gear it is as safe as it can possibly be.

One of the first things you will want to get are a pair of rock climbing shoes. There is an endless amount of shoes out there and further research is vital to finding the right pair for you. If this is your first time buying climbing shoes I recommend going to your local climbing shop and trying them on because the sizes are sometimes different than your actual shoe size. You will also need to get a chalk-bag and some chalk. This will keep your hands dry and increase friction between your hands and the rock.

The gear you need will depend mainly on what kind of climbing you plan on doing. But since this is to get you started, i recommend you start by top-roping and bouldering. Those two types will help you gain the technique and endurance you will need to move up in the climbing world. I also recommend your first time climbing outdoors be with a guide or someone who has plenty of experience setting up the gear you will need to climb. The ideal place to start would be a local climbing gym. The staff there can provide you with the knowledge and tips you need to be safe.

Once youve bouldered some you will want to buy a harness. Just like the shoes there are plenty of harnesses out there to fit your personality and climbing needs. I would recommend a harness with good padding because I would hate to climb without it honestly. For a basic top rope set up you will need at least a 50m. dynamic/dry treated rope(they make them longer as well), 3-4 pieces of 1 inch webbing or Runners (webbing sewn at the ends to form a loop). Webbing comes in various sizes, but they should at least be 6 to 8 ft in length. This will prevent you from coming up short when your setting up. You will also need at least 4 locking carabiners, and a belay device, which is used to catch a climber in case they were to fall while climbing. Belay Devices are hooked to the belay loop on your harness with a locking biner.

Im going to remind you once again that climbing is dangerous and you should always seek professional advice before going out and climbing on your own. Climbing can also be the best time of your life, just make sure you do it the right and safe way. I Hope this answers your questions...and I hope you enjoy Climbing. Feel free to comment with more questions if I left anything out!
